Work Location is Gemlik/Turkey

The role is a key role which delivers engineering objectives for new projects and plant improvement initiatives in the Gemlik Plant. The role provides process optimization/continuous improvement and process safety discipline expertise for the Gemlik Plant Team. This includes developing process safety resolutions to mitigate hazards and reduce operational risk and lead process engineering support to appraise conceptual engineering solutions for projects in the plant and the transitioning of these concepts into detailed engineering, execution and operations.

The role is to organize, from decision-making to implementation, all works required for investments in and maintenance of buildings, equipment, construction and pipe relevant to Gemlik Lubricant manufacturing; to provide the conditions for ensuring that all these equipment continue to be available during their use; to manage the discontinuation of the equipment not available for use; and to deliver all these functions in such a way that will not harm the environment or human health.
The Project Coordinator is also responsible, for the application of local standards and BP’s ETP’s(Engineering Technical Practices) and the relevant requirements defined in OMS (Operating Management System) during the operations in the whole facility.

Key accountabilities
  • Provides process optimization/ continuous improvement expertise, and process safety discipline leadership (i.e. mitigate hazards and reduce operational risk) during the conceptualization, development and design of new projects and plant improvement

  • Leading conformance to Operating Management System Sub-elements (3.3 Process Safety, 5.2 Design & Construction, 5.3 Asset Operation) for the Gemlik plant.

  • Develops and applies project specifications which are consistent with BP’s policies, processes and engineering expectations, for controlling the quality/safety/environmental outcomes of new projects and (existing) process improvement initiatives.

  • Specifies and assures policies, process and engineering attributes required to control the quality/safety/environmental outcomes of new projects and (existing) process improvement initiatives.

  • Process engineering evaluation concept design stage at Appraise/early Select stages to ensure that projects going for preliminary Sanction have a sound basis for pre-funding requests for Define.

  • Ensures that assets/equipment/systems operates within the specified design parameters accounting for variability in product and operating characteristics.

  • Ensures that the process operates to deliver quality, safety and environmental objectives.

  • Leads Process safety reviews, risk assessments and action item resolution plans to mitigate safety hazards and reduce operational risks and involves relevant support from regional team

  • Works closely with the Initiator and/or Leader of Project HSSE Reviews (PHSSERs) to enhance the effectiveness and rigorous of Process Safety assurance processes related to these reviews.

  • Deploys and assures relevant Group, Segment (Downstream) and SPU (Lubricants) Engineering standards and technical practices as delegated.

  • Determines, sets budgets for and organizes the needs for investment related to the Lubricant Plant; actively participates in the decision-making process and in the joint investment activities of the lubricant and fuel plants; prepares the related specifications; prepares and follows up contracts; carries out maintenance and investment requests from the units according to the priority order set by the plant.

  • Prepares and approves work permits as PA and AA in its field of responsibility through Cockpit system and follows up work permits on site and also act as Planner in CoW organisastion chart.

  • Participates as a Loading Master for vessel unloading operation.

  • Follows up the practices in its field of responsibility in terms of ISO 9001 - ISO 14001 – OHSAS 18001- TS16949.

  • Creates healthy and safe work conditions in its fields of responsibility; provides order and composition; follows up the practices and official communications on environment, occupational safety and health, which are in its field of responsibility; follows up the implementation of decisions made during monthly occupational safety and health meetings.

  • Ensures the development, informing, training, guidance and motivation for its own personnel.

  • Takes part in the activities for ensuring the establishment, implementation and continuity of Gemlik Plant’s HSSE Management system; follows up the legislation for the environment and distributes to the units, and carries out the relevant actions; follows up the related activities in the field.

Essential Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electric, Petrol, Electric-Electronic or Industrial Engineering

Essential experience and job requirements

Education & Experience:

  • At least 3 years relevant working experience in engineering projects for process engineering, process safety, etc.

  • Knowledge of all relevant oil and gas industry codes, standards and regulations associated with process design and process safety engineering

  • Knowledge of process safety hazard’s analysis and risk assessment methodologies.

  • Excellent self-motivation, organizational and prioritization skills

  • Good interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated process engineering, process safety and related experience


  • Lubricants industry experience is preferred.

  • Consumer packaged good experience.

  • Supply Chain experience.

Desirable criteria & qualifications
  • Co-ordinates investment works with the Engineering Manager and Lubricant Plant Manager, according to the budget means and human resources.

  • Works closely with HSSE advisor on HSSE issues.

  • Reports to the Lubricant Engineering Manager the works in its field of responsibility in and out of the plant.

  • Delivers internal engineering reports in its field of responsibility to Lubricants Engineering Manager.

  • Authorized for the communications and follow-up of works within its field of responsibility, by contacting plant HSSE Advisor regarding H.S.S.E. issues.
